1. I Won't Back Down.....I try to live by this...but not too "I need bail money" over the top.
2. Free Fallin'.....It's a turn up the volume and sing along kind of song.
3. Learning to Fly....An instant classic for this Petty fan.
4. Into the Great Wide Open.....One of his top songs. Period.
5. Refugee.....This may be that one song that got me hooked.6. Runnin' Down a Dream.....Talk about an uplifting tune. It's got a good tempo.
7. Breakdown.....Lyrically sound as any other song he has written.
8. You Got Lucky.....I used to sing it to my wife back when she was more of a fan of me.
9. Don't Do Me Like That.....Could have easily had it higher on the list.
10. Don't Come Around Here No More.....More great lyrics and good guitar play to with it.
11. Mary Jane's Last Dance.....Who doesn't want to crank it up and sing it loud.
12. American Girl.....It has meaning that people can relate to.
13. Jammin' Me.....Hearing "Take back Vanessa Redgrave. Take back Joe Piscopo. Take back Eddie Murphy. Give em all some place to go" gets me every time.
14. Stop Draggin' My Heart Around.....A rock solid duet with Stevie Nicks as a 7 inch vinyl record in 1981
15. The Waiting.....Is the hardest part, indeed. Can't wait to hear the "Hard Promises' album.
tie: The Last DJ.....The lone song on the list from the new millennium. I can think of 5 great tunes I passed up to squeeze in this track.
UNDERRATED SONG: Honey Bee.....I highly recommend this tune from the "Wildflowers" album. It has a great easy listening flavor about it.
OVERRATED SONG: Listen to Her Heart.....I actually like it. I was just looking for a top 40 song of his I liked the least.
DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH: Hometown Blues.....Yes. it is a bit bluesy...nothing wrong with that. It's a solid cut.
ALBUM TO LISTEN TO: "Full Moon Fever" has my top two songs on it, so it gets the nod. I do like the early stuff albums from the Heartbreaker days a lot, such as "Damn the Torpedoes", "Hard Promises" and "Long After Dark". "Pack up the Plantation Live!" is a nice album too.
