  BUDDAH'S TOP 15 KANSAS SONGS

  1. Carry On My Wayward Son.....It drops in at number 22 on my original 70's Geek List.
  2. Point of No Return.....Another one I am fond of enough for it to land in the top 100 at #77.
  3. Dust in the Wind.....One of greatest masterpiece ballads ever recorded.
  4. Portrait (He Knew).....This song just fills my rock and roll heart.
  5. Hold On.....Sung like a champ. Thanks Steve Walsh.
  6. Fight Fire With Fire.....The single broke into the charts in 1983 at number 56.
  7. Play the Game Tonight.....Probably their best tune past the obvious first three.
  8. People of the Southwind.....It's just got good catchy music.
  9. Song For America.....I recall it as a very lengthy song when I saw them live a few years ago.
10. Nobody's Home.....Very soulful cut.
11. Can I Tell You.....This one rocks harder than most of what they do.
12. Got to Rock On.....I was instantly hooked when I first heard it.
13. Paradox......The energetic orchestra music takes center stage on this.
14. What's on My Mind.....Great vocals with classic guitars.
15. Icarus (Born on the Wings of Steel).....Very solid song with the fiddle taking it all the way.
tie: Sparks of the Tempest.....Shout out to fellow Kansas fan Scott Long for reminding me of this beauty.
tie: Belexes.....It's a hard rockin' jam that I have to acknowledge.

UNDERRATED SONG: The Wall.....This song is no big secret to true Kansas fans.
OVERRATED SONG: The Pinnacle.....Well, one of more likeable songs had to get the Buddah ax. Sorry. No I'm not.
DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH: Miracles Out of Nowhere.....The slightly hidden gem from "Leftoverture".
ALBUM TO LISTEN TO: I love "Point of No Return" and it's album cover, giving it the edge over the "Leftoverture" record.

  1. I am a very big Kansas Fan. I will get to my list in a few months, but a few comments. How can you say The Wall is most underrated song, but you don't have listed? I might rate it Number 1. A Glimpse of Time is a big miss not having and Time to revisit the list to find Sparks of the Tempest. It has that huge Kansas scope to it, but rocks really hard. I believe the stuff with Elefante is very underappreciated. Drastic Measures End of the Age is another great rocker. Chasing Shadows is one of their 4 best ballads, as Elefante's voice is pure. I'm actually friends with Kerry Livgren's daughter, who I have discussed this stuff with in the past:) I will have to check out your other top 15's.

    1. Scott, I really appreciate your input. Sounds like you are a bigger fan than I am. Saw them a couple years ago for the second time. Still on top of their game, indeed. It's just my Kansas taste. The Wall is a nice tune, and I was looking for a song that doesn't get it's due respect. I don't recall it as a top 40 hit. That's what I am going for with an underrated selection. But now I want to listen to Glimpse of Time and Chasing Shadows, as I am not familiar with them. I do like Sparks of Tempest but it's tough to fit just 15 songs into a list when a band has so much endless material like Kansas.

  3. I only found Glimpse of Home rather than Glimpse of Time. Decent song but won't make the list. I remember Chasing Shadows and I wish I could squeeze it in. I also listened to Spark of the Tempest. Now I want to redo the whole list because of this song, Stay tuned, brother. Thanks for your musical wisdom, once again.
